A Gift from Adidas: Shoes do solve Issues....

A camera, an appropriate lens and original perspective is what sets you apart as a photographer. The first two components can be gathered by anyone but the "original" style is what one can't procure, it naturally comes to oneself. The brand which completely makes the cut and support the above mentioned notion is adidas Originals, the unique feel of the brand makes it THE choice for the youth of today. It very smartly converts the worldwide street style into colorful and vibrant apparels. I have had hots for brand since my school days and was head over heels for the swag looks one inherits the moment Originals apparel is adorned. However, you know what, there's always an inclination to choose something that's typically out of the box. Ahan!

I experienced a similar thrill few days back, when a close friend gifted me a pair of the iconic shell toe adidas Originals Superstar. If you see some of the clicks, this shoe looks perfectly dipped in oddles of vogue and class. I fell in love with the design the moment I got hold of them. I have already done a few product shoots for shoes but this was a different one. The finish and cut of the shoe is so great that each click came out to be perfect. You don't need a photographer's eye "to judge "!

The same friend told me about this real cool contest #AllSuperstarsUnite. We have four celebrities Nucleya, Daku, Nida and Ronny for each genre EDM, graffiti, fashion and photography, respectively. If you are passionate about any of the genre, click on the website and submit your inspiration which can make you a superstar. Isn't that such an uber-cool proposition? Plenty of drama is in store for sure. But before that you need to make up your mind..not to com-'promise' with your fashion-centric-urge!

Well, let me make your job slightly easier, here is the address to awesomeness, CLICK away:  www.allsuperstarsunite.in

The fact that your choice of footwear definitely syncs with your personality, I find this campaign all the more apt and profound. In-fact, we tend to relate our favorite sports personalities with the brand of shoes they wear. It's more of a "guiding by foot-steps" centric practice. Of late, people have gone one step ahead and adopted "shoe-collection" as their cherished hobby; I did overhear an acclaimed video jockey professing this unique trait of his; yes my friend...there is an intrinsic connection for sure. I guess it's time to nurture the "shoe-lover" in you...my word...what an amazing platform have you got!

And of course, there's a bourgeois myth that "collecting shoes" has been a 'female forte' right from the inception but then, we have done quite a bit to set the trend. I remember my Dad bringing a pair of classic chappals from Bangladesh on his first international trip and we have continued the trend since then. It's hilarious to note that the average number of shoes (and chappals) stolen from a temple is increasing steadily with every passing day; in fact that, my friend, is symbolic in many respects....it shows the resplendence in espousal. And the mortals, we know, are born fashionable...they have invented newer ways to look good.. those new-flanged designs have set up new bench-marks.

They say that 'fashion' is a luxury...I say it's an endowment and since Adidas has brought in such an amazing collection to serve you and your feet...be rest assured, you won't be greeted by a frumpy defeat. Dude, have a look at the Superstar Bling XL for example...I bet you'll be bowled over....yes, it's cranky, it's quirky, it's idiosyncratic, out-of-the-box...and it 'deserves attention'. You are the best judge afterall...be my guest. Come join me in this epic ride, we will explore fashion like never before.. do take a look at what's in store for you!

The Hereditary Curse....

Well then, let me tell you a story. It's a true story...it's story of adversity, suffering on one hand and an inspiring one on the other.
This write-up is dedicated to the person who has faced life as a challenge in itself, who has gone against the flow and has transcended the barriers of caste and religion to establish her blissful existence. She has emerged as victorious in her battle against those physical shortcomings and those worthless principles that stem the free-flow of life.
The love of my life, my dearest cousin, has done wonders with her life: it’s amazing to see her comeback when the chips were completely down and out. Affected with juvenile diabetes (Diabetes mellitus type 1, T1DM)  right from the age of 9, she had almost lost faith in her life when there came a magical twist which completely changed her outlook. The auto antibody testing revealed that it was a type 1 disorder, that had a recursive effect. We knew that she could slowly move into an acute state of suffering that included kidney failure or massive strokes. She was suffering from chronic weakness-es right from the childhood days, including frequent illness' with very high body-temperature, cough and cold...the doctors, surprising couldn't find the right diagnosis, the symptoms were highly complex, as they had postulated. It was not merely malnutrition that the doctor's had interpreted, it was, in effect a hereditary curse. Her poor health condition brought in a disconsolate gloom; I remember my aunt not going out during the entire stretch of Durga Pujo just because of her beloved daughter's plight, it's big sacrifice considering the gravity of the festival...it was not to be. Her daughter's despondency was eating into her, her 'zeal for life' for slowly diminishing. The pessimism had spread it's roots in the family by then...it was a nightmare to be honest, it was such a pain to see a child suffer like this....it was perhaps no fault of her's. She couldn't go to school during the major part of the academic year, she couldn't attend those gymnastic classes...she couldn't 'live the best days of her life'. It was as if like a lost cause...a black hole of obliteration that was slowly absorbing them deep within. It was an acute state of depression, they had perhaps lost their "reason to smile". All they pleaded for, was a 'ray of hope' from somewhere, just a bit of inspiration nevertheless.
She used sit around the corner, brooding over her cursed life, her illness - when somebody made her realise that life isn't about mourning or agonising, it’s about conquering the impediments and rising above all.
She was an extremely talented swimmer but her illness was pegging her back from going ahead with her ambition. She had almost lost it, when her trainer Majid, stepped into her life like a blessing. He inspired her to think beyond those trivial short-comings and galvanised her step towards experiencing life to the fullest. He used to spend hours with her in form of interaction, training, motivating and innovating newer avenues of life; he just wanted her to jump in with full vigour.
She finally started responding to his calls and her dedication started yielding rich dividends soon after. It was under Majid, that she won her first inter-state woman’s freestyle championship where she conquered her unbearable pain to clinch the top-spot amidst the best in business; she was unstoppable.
And as it was destined the bond of love added a new flavour to their cherished association. She was the happiest person in the world when Majid proposed to her on her 18-th Birthday; her ‘cursed’ life was starting to smile upon her yet again.
But destiny had yet another twist in store. Our family was totally against an inter-caste marriage; in fact at one point of time, she was told to choose one: her family or Majid as the way ahead. Her illness complicated, as the toughest phase of her life had descended. She didn't give up.
She had put in her best effort in terms of establishing her views in-front of the elders in the family; but in vain. My uncle had other plans; he had already started looking for alternative career options for his daughter. But she was firm and rigid with the very fact that she won’t succumb under any sort of external pressure.
She was locked up in a dark room for a couple days, but her spirit was insurmountable.
She rode on her blistering confidence to reach the final rounds of the Commonwealth Games held in India...and Majid was there with her. She came back with a smile and hid her intriguing pain that was killing her from inside.
There were a few shocked faces in the crowd when she kissed Majid in open air. She had found her reason to smile, she had found her true love....she had INDEED crushed all those confinements and raised the bars of her glorious ambition. Perhaps the 'ride' could have been smoother had she been medically fit right from the childhood, perhaps her family would have seen the better side of life right from the inception. She had lost some vitally important days of her life....the salad days to be honest, but she fought along in search of sunshine. A healthy child is perhaps a divine doctrine, a benediction....we can perhaps undertake those tiny bits of efficacious intervention to script a 'perfect childhood'. Who knows, we might end up extirpating those hereditary imprecations? Yes, it's pretty much possible my friend. Salute to the spirit of mortality, salute to the indomitable indignation of mankind...!

The Diwali Nostalgia....

Well, looks like this year’s Diwali’s going to be spent with an extended family. The reason why I say so? Umm…okay, let me spill the beans here; and it’s not as dramatic as you might be contemplating. I guess it makes perfect sense when I say that the exercise that I’m currently undertaking is perhaps going to revolutionize the practice of burning fire-crackers during Diwali; uh oh…did I just mention Diwali? That did tickle the nostalgic bewitchery.
If I rewind my ‘timeline’, I could perhaps visualize the jubilant reunion of sorts…with the family members from across the country and abroad would come together and mingle in the essence of amity and concord. The bongs would call it Kali Puja that is again an importunate extension of the acclaimed doctrine “বারো মাসে তেরো পার্বণ” (the collective celebration of 13 festivities in 12 months) and that in effect, rejuvenates those dripping souls after the Durga Pujo hangover. The quintessence of exuberant fun gained momentum with ভাইফোঁটা (Bhai Phonta or Dooj) taking over the proceedings as a logical follow up….but then, all good things have to end. I think the best part of this dual celebration was the jubilant prefatory drill; till 1998 it was a grand praxis to celebrate Kali Pujo at our ancestral place in Ranaghat. That was indeed the best part of the year for me at least; yes Durga Pujo always had the stranglehold of upbeat impact but the traditional conjuration attached to “Diwali” was so very appealing. And how can I forget those glorious expeditions to Champahati, South 24 Paraganas to procure the best ever firecrackers in Bengal, in bulk as well as at reasonable price.
“I hope that these crackers have been ‘tuned’ well…I want to see the height of this flower-pot output”- My crackerjack proclaimed, he was one of a kind. Sampling those ground-charkas, rockets and flower-pots would be his venerated expertise, we did develop quite an eye for fire-crackers through his intervention. He did manage to learn those intricate details as an aftermath of a hilarious incident that took place in the year 1994 when a fallacious ‘abated’ bottle rocket ransacked gravely into a local retail store…could have been a ghastly accident in there. It does crop up thunderous cachinnations these days but the fact that dad luckily survived a fortuitous ‘chocolate bomb outburst’, doesn’t really go eclipsed. Damn, my neighbor used to store those ‘interdicted’ chocolate bombs in the refrigerator after the stricter anti-sound pollution norms were imposed by the Calcutta Police…there was literally no stopping us. But honestly speaking, I had a special liking toward “Aloo Bomb”, the one that needed no invitations (fire) to ‘impress it’s impact’ and the victims were those poor street dogs….sigh those guilty pleasures of childhood. But I think, the biggest surprise…the biggest ‘phenomenon’ of Diwali so far, has certainly been dada’s unexpected return from the States, that too with his family…back in 1999. It was his first visit to India in 10 years post-graduation, he was indeed such a changed man…his stories from across the seven seas were something to enshrine. Those were the best days of my life.
Okay then, taking the cue from my first paragraph….I’m back to Champahati now, this time as a consultant working towards the skill up-gradation & process improvement of the entrepreneurs out there, the vision being touching the excellence that Sivakashi, Tamil Nadu has managed to reach in the last few decades or so. Yes.... it’s a challenging exercise but then, if we manage to achieve even 30-40 percent of our projection, I guess Champahati could turn out to be one of the most vibrant clusters in the country…and the outcome being fabrication of some excellent quality of fire-crackers and overall development of the people associated with this industry. Yes, I have an extended family now, I'll celebrating Diwali with them this year. It sure, sounds exciting...I bet you should visit Champahati at this point of the year...the exhibition of fire-crackers is just incredible. No worries people, I will keep you guys updated with the progress of this assignment through my subsequent blog-posts. Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali, stay safe, stay awesome. Enjoy....!
